Casually Completing Classics:1984 Part 7 (2.3)

We get some decent background here. Winston works 60 hours a week, and Julia even longer. London was nuked ~30 years ago.  ("Always in the stink of women! How I hate women!" she said parenthetically) Parenthesis original. I liked this bit: She seemed to think it just as natural that 'they' should want to rob you of your pleasures as that you should want to avoid being caught.  As well as: She was very young, he thought, she still expected something from life, she did not understand that to push an inconvenient person over a cliff solves nothing.

Apparently, this week is just me rambling about physical books on here.

I can't find my marked up copy of 1984. I thought I had it on my desk at work, but I couldn't find it. I checked my bag, since I knew I put it in there the other day to bring it home when it snowed. I can't find it anywhere at home. It doesn't help that I have like 20 almost identical copies in my room at work. This is a filler post. EDIT: I found it. It fell under the dining room table.

I wonder what book I have the most copies of.

I kept accidentally buying Flight of The Intruder as a kid, thinking it was a different book in the series.

We Have Engaged The Borg (2025)

We Have Engaged The Borg Bonus:  The Borg, they have engaged them. Summary:  It's a fan made splat book. Commentary: Great (not-so-little) fan project, tying together all the bits and pieces of Borg/Wolf 359 stuff across multiple series. Honestly, better written than most first party Star Trek  stuff. The Federation actually functions as a semi-rational if flawed democracy, instead of the Idealistic Fascists they normally are.

Duke Nukem 3D (1996) L.A. Meltdown

Probably the best part of the game. I've always been more of an id Tech than Build guy, but I'm home sick and Duke 3D was $2.50, which seemed like a reasonable amount to spend to sit on the couch and replay something. (Apparently I bought a Switch 2 mostly to play old games I could already play on my computer, but on the couch.) I don't really have strong memories of Duke 3D , though I did play it when I was a kid. Well, I shot my way through the first level set, and here's what I noticed. Good: The environments are pretty well done. I've talked a bit about Doom-Cute in the Doom entries and Duke has it from the get go. Arcades, jails, etc. Even just a city street gets some nice details and nick nacks. Likewise, there's a lot of nice little details. The bloody footprints when you step past an enemy, the mirrors in bathrooms, stuff like that. Bad: It's even worse on a controller (side note, the Switch port is not nearly as nicely done as the Doom one, get som...
